GETBA is focused on the efficient movement of freight and people

East Tamaki is a major employment hub for 30,000 staff. The efficient movement of both freight and people is key to the ability of businesses to improve productivity and to attract and retain staff.


Our transport strategy takes a two-pronged approach to addressing congestion:

  • Advocating for roading infrastructure improvements (e.g. East-West Link and local roads), and
  • Supporting local businesses with travel planning (Travelwise Choices)

Intersection Springs Rd, Kerwyn Ave and Lady Ruby Drive

2 April 2019

GETBA has lobbied for improvements to this congestion hot spot since 2017. Auckland Transport has completed investigations and as put forward by GETBA, proposes to widen Lady Ruby Drive and Kerwyn Avenue on the southern side adding an additional west bound through lane and two westbound receiving lanes. 

There is an opportunity to give feedback on the proposed work before the deadline of Tues 16 April.

Speed limit reduction proposed for Highbrook Drive

2 April 2019

Auckland Transport's proposed new Speed Limits Bylaw 2019 will reduce the speed limit on Highbrook Drive from the Southern Motorway interchange to the intersection with Business Parade South from 70kph to 60 kph. GETBA has made a submission recommending the speed limit could safely be increased to 80 kph.

AMETI Eastern Busway

March 2019
Construction work on the Panmure to Pakuranga stage of the AMETI Eastern Busway begins on 19 April at the Panmure roundabout. Auckland Transport is working with local employers to help design individual travel plans for affected employees communting to East Tamaki to assist with avoiding disruption caused by construction.

As a result of ongoing lobbying this project is now funded in the Regional Land Transport Plan for completion by 2028.

Gossamer/Trugood/Cryers/Harris area

Auckland Transport are proposing to create an extra lane from Ti Rakau into Gossamer as an interim measure prior to AMETI. They have also committed to construct a roundabout at the corner of Cryers Road and Trugood Drive by June 2019.

Regional Land Transport Plan 2018-2028

On 1 May Auckland Council released their proposed Draft Regional Fuel Tax document and Draft Regional Land Transport Plan 2018-2028 outlining the vision for Auckland's transport infrastructure, how it will be funded including priority projects and budgets. In addition to the proposal to introduce a Regional Fuel Tax, of key importance to East Tamaki is the inclusion in both draft documents of the long awaited Smales/Allens Road widening and intersection upgrade - a major bottleneck in the precinct.
